Nia was beyond frustrated with Lorenzo after he failed to call or text her after he basically fled her condo a few days ago. After he left, she wondered what the call was about that made him so agitated that he left her there. At the same time, she knew it was not her business, but part of her was feeling connected him in a way that she hadn’t felt better.

At the same time, Nia knew that she needed to push those feelings away. She had much better things to do than get into another relationship with a complicated man in a business as illegal as hers. She knew there was only one person around her who knew how to deal with this type of situation. She reached for her phone on her night stand and texted her best friend, Sloan.

Are you free? Can we meet up at the old hangout spot? Nia texted.

A few moments passed before Sloan texted back.

I’ll meet you there in 20 Nia texted.

By “hangout spot” Nia meant the old bookstore in West Philly they used to spend hours at during high school. They’d been friends since grade school and although Sloan had just graduated from law school, she was always curious about Nia’s profession.

The bookstore had changed in the past few years and have since become a popular hipster spot, but Nia still enjoyed being there and getting lost in books. They agreed to meet in the cafe that opened inside the bookstore towards the back.

Sloan’s gorgeous Nigerian features were framed by her cute, light brown colored locks. She was definitely one of the most empathetic yet assertive people Nia had ever known and that came in handy when anyone tried to bully her in middle school. When the pair met up, they gave each other a quick embrace before sitting down at the small table.

“So, uh, I kinda met someone.” Nia said, sitting her purse in her lap.”and I’m not really sure how to handle it.”

“Give me all the dirty details.” Sloan leaned into the table. “What’s his name, did you meet him at work?”

Nia leaned into the table and tried to hold back a smile. “It’s a long story, but anyway, there’s this guy from the mafia who’s tryna court me or whatever. I don’t know how to feel about it.”

Sloan’s eyes widened. “Are you serious? Wha-who where?”

Just then, a cafe employee came to their table and took their orders.

“I don’t know, I like him and all, but I just don’t trust him.” .Nia replied. “He’s in the mob, ya know? Not sure how I feel about that.”

She chuckled. “Yeah, I don’t want you to go missing, you know? Especially after the last guy, what was his name, Antoni?”

Nia swallowed hard and looked away. “I don’t wanna think about him right now.”

Sloan held out her hand and placed it over Nia’s. “Fuck, I’m sorry. I’m sorry, I did everything I could find him for you after what happened”

“It’s okay, let’s just eat.” Nia replied calmly.

Their food arrived, and the two friends began to dig into their food. The café was bustling as usual and Nia somehow felt comfort in that. She was such a city girl she felt out of place where there wasn’t a lot of people. She found comfort in chaos, even if it were in a cafe attached to a bookstore.

“Well, there’s something else I didn’t mention.” Nia gossiped. “He took me out the day and we went back to my place. We made out but he just left kinda quick, said it was ‘business;”

Sloan nearly choked on her sandwich and needed a moment to catch her breath before laughing. “Business my ass, you know he was about to murder someone.”

Nia playfully rolled her eyes. “I don’t know that, but it seemed kinda serious. His whole mood changed.”

“I gave him my number, but I don’t know.” Nia poured some ketchup on the side of her plate for her fries. “I might though, he was really cute. Older, but very sexy in a 90s Ray Liotta type way. It’s just hard trusting someone like that. I didn’t even know the mob was still around.”

“I’d say go for it.” Sloan said, reaching over for one of Nia’s fries. “You haven’t seriously dated since high school and who knows, he’s probably packing a big ole stallion you don’t know about.”

Nia shrugged and looked around the café for a few moments before leaning in again. “He knows what I do and doesn’t care, that’s a big thing for me. Not everyone knows that about me.”

Sloan nodded.”Who knows, he may have a heart of gold. And if he’s in organized crime, that’s several crimes in one.” Sloan took a large bite from her sandwich. “Besides, I may be the future lawyer of this friendship, but I’d never arrest a sex worker, especially my best friend. Your work should be legalized at this point.”

Nia smiled at her friend. Sloan was always witty, supportive and never judged her for what she did for a living. There was even a time where Sloan thought about becoming an escort but didn’t want to interfere with her law and political aspirations. Nia still enjoyed the support nonetheless.

“Thank you, girl,” Nia replied. “You always have my back and I always appreciate that.”

Sloan Anadolu Yakası escort smiled and nodded towards the bookstores. “Come on, let’s see if we can find that new Michelle Obama book.”

***

After her brunch date with Sloan, Nia met up with one of her clients, Kellan, a divorced black man who was paying her for a wine tasting event, a walk in the park, and a museum downtown. He was handsome and seemed wealthy, so it’s beyond her of why he would need to pay for a date in the first place.

The two settled in front of a fountain in the park near Rittenhouse Square.

“So what do you do for a living, Kellan?” Nia asked, she was almost captivated by his eyes that resembled almonds

“I actually run a few nonprofits in the area,” Kellan replied, “I do public relations mostly for the local NAACP.”

She nodded and raised her eyebrows in surprise. “That’s interesting, do you like what you do?”

“Oh, yes,” he said, clearing his throat. “I really like helping the community. We gotta stick together, you know?”

She smiled. “Yeah, I understand that.”

Kellan was handsome with perfectly white teeth, a strong jaw and skin that resembled soft black marble, he could model or something if he wanted to.

“How long have you been doing what you do?” he asked as he looped an arm around her.

“About four years now.” She lied without biting her tongue.

There were just some things she didn’t like to tell her clients, especially if she wanted more money from them in the future. They didn’t have to know everything about her and honestly? It was better that way.

The rest of the day seemed to fly by but she actually had fun. The heat of Rittenhouse Square Park almost made Nia sad summer was coming to an end. They were near the side with the deserted fountain, when a slight chill went down Nia’s spine. She saw the two men in suits that Lorenzo always kept around, but he wasn’t in sight. They were watching her like a hawk with full eye contact. She had a feeling he was nearby and this unsettled her. He didn’t have the decency to call her back, but could send his men to watch her during her dates? She made a mental note to call him that night.

“You ok?” Kellan asked, noticing her mind drifting away.

Nia plastered a fake smile on her face. “Yes, let’s go.”

“How about we go for that play, now?” Kellan said, noticing her hostility.

When he dropped her off that night at their drop off point, he kissed her goodnight, but her mind was elsewhere. Kellan’s lips were full and sweet, but all she could do was think about Lorenzo and how much she wanted to feel his lips instead.

By the time she reached her condo, she’d ripped off her clothes and makeup settled into a warm bath. Just as she was about to take a light nap in her tub, her cell phone rang on the rim of the tub.

“Hello?” she answered as she got settled beneath the warm water.

“Hello Nia,” the deep voice on the other line answered. “How was your date?”

She recognized his thick, South Philly accent immediately.

“It was fine, Lorenzo,” she said, annoyed. “What are you doing, spying on me now?”

Lorenzo chuckled on the other end. “I like to know where my girl is. You know I care about you, Nia.”

Nia bit her lip. “I appreciate you for caring about my well-being but I’m not your girl.”

“Not yet.”

She smirked and played with the soft white bubbles in the bath. “You didn’t call me back after the other night. What was that about anyway?”

Lorenzo hesitated. “It, uh, it was business. I’m sorry, I didn’t want you involved.”

“Mhm.” Nia groaned. She wanted to ask more but she didn’t want to pry.

“How about I make it up to you?” Lorenzo inquired on the other line. “I’d like to finish what we started the other night.”

Nia pressed her foot against the bath faucet. She blushed when she thought about the way his lips felt. “I should be free tomorrow, my place or yours?”

“I’ll have a car pick you up at six, don’t be late. Wear that black dress I first saw you in, I liked it”

She smiled and ended the call. For the rest of the night, she thought about what kind of night tomorrow would be. It rare that she ever became giddy over a date, but something deep inside of her knew that something was real about Lorenzo. She knew her father would be heartbroken if he knew she was tangled up with someone like that, but she didn’t care. It was only their second date, but Nia knew that Lorenzo was someone that she wanted to be with.

After her bath, she searched her closet for the coveted dress. When she found it, she examined the garment for any imperfections, she didn’t see any and set it aside on her makeup chair. She admired it for a moment. It was one of her first nice dresses that she bought for herself when she first started escorting. It reached mid-thigh, off the shoulder and it was black and lacy. Even if she wasn’t having the sex, she always paired it with a lace Anadolu Yakası escort bayan strapless bra and matching thong, but tomorrow night she knew that something would happen between them, it had to.

***

The next day, Lorenzo had business meetings back to back in his office. He barely had a moment’s peace until six o’clock hit but he still had to go home to shower, change, and pick up Nia. Nia, he thought. He couldn’t get the idea of her out of his head and the thought of her bent over his desk set him off.

“I think we should make this deal happen next week.” Jim O’Donnell said from across his desk.

Lorenzo shook his head and snapped himself back to reality. “Wait, my apologies can you repeat that?”

Jim hesitated. “Like I was saying, we have some loose ends to tie up in New York. We need to make the Santucci hit happen before that.”

“Oh, right.” He said, smoothing his wavy hair. “Yeah, you’re right. They won’t know what hit ’em.”

When Jim left the room, Lorenzo rubbed his eyes for a moment and looked at his desk. His right hand man Kenny was standing in the corner watching him.

“It’s that girl, isn’t it?” he said, taking a few steps closer.

“Why’d you say that?” Lorenzo asked, clearing his throat.

Kenny chuckled. “Because I’ve never seen you get distracted. Ever since you met her you can’t stop asking Marc and Frank to follow her.”

Lorenzo sucked his teeth. He was a smart man but he couldn’t hide anything from Kenny, it seemed. He knew one of his major weaknesses was women. Lorenzo never strayed when he was with them, and after his marriage ended two years ago, he missed the companionship.

“Don’t you think she’d a bit young for you?” Kenny asked, taking a seat.

“Bullshit.” He said firmly. “She’s 24 and independant. This isn’t any of your business..”

“Come on, ‘Renzo,” his friend said. “You know damn right you’re getting older and you just wanna settle down again. Don’t settle for an escort broad long term. She’s good for now, but long term? Come on.”

“You don’t know her,” he sternly replied. “I like this girl. Unless you want to keep breathing, I don’t want you to say another fucking word like that about her.”

Kenny nodded and clenched his jaw. He knew he overstepped his boundaries and he knew that Lorenzo had no limits. He always kept a list of people he’d killed that crossed him, and although they were basically blood brothers, he knew would put him on that list in a heartbeat if he overstepped enough. He’d seen him laugh throwing guys in ditches in the middle of the night.

By the time six rolled around, Lorenzo made it back to his day home in the Bella Vista neighborhood of South Philly. After his father mother died, his father bought two houses on the block and turned it into one big rowhome, fit for a big family that Lorenzo couldn’t make yet, but knew he needed a preddesor at some point. Instead, he decided to just use it for when he was doing business and didn’t feel like commuting back to his home, or for personal business meetings.

Dawning a black suit and black button-down with his best shoes, he stood outside of the limo parked in front of Nia’s condo building and watched as she walked out. He was struck when he saw in a gorgeous light brown faux mink coat that she held at her shoulders overtop the lace dress. She had a sensual walk about her, the way her hips swayed and begged for attention. He had to fight everything in him not to rip of her dress.

“Good evening, Nia.” He said, helping her into the car’s backseat.

“Good evening,” she replied, offering him a smile.

The driver took off deeper south into the city. Nia stared out the window, always stunned by the beauty of her own city. After a short, ten minute ride they arrived to a fancy apartment building near Rittenhouse Square. The driver parked near its entrance and Lorenzo came around the car to let Nia out. She took his hand and walked safety on the sidewalk.

Arm and arm, they walked through the center lobby of his apartment building and he pressed the elevator button. In those thirty seconds it took to go from the first floor to Lorenzo’s apartment, Nia’s heart was racing out of her chest. She’d forgotten how nervous she could be in these situations. He wasn’t paying for this, so maybe she could relax? He wasn’t another one of her clients, she reminded herself.

When they arrived at his apartment, Nia was taken aback by the stark contrast between their living areas. His apartment was downtown chic but included a lot of vintage pieces and mid-century furniture and vintage photos on the walls.. The living room had two couches facing each other and a glass coffee table, and bookcases lined one wall of the room. The kitchen was vastly different with updated appliances and He had a record player in the corner and a framed photo of Frank Sinatra in above it.

When they walked in, Nia noticed that he removed a gun from the back of his waistband escort bayan and put in a drawer near the entryway of his home.

Lorenzo came up beside her and wrapped his arm around her waist.”Do you want a tour? Give me your coat.”

“Sure,” she said, breaking her focus to him. She slid the coat off her shoulders and Lorenzo hung it on a hook near the door.

The two migrated over the living room and he pointed to the vintage furniture and new flat screen television. “I have another house in Bella Vista, but I live here half the time. I know this looks old, it was passed down to me from my mother, she wanted to pass down furniture. Over here,” he said pointing to the island in the kitchen and its updated appliances, “is the kitchen, I don’t always cook but when do I, I cook a lot. You’ll get a taste of that tonight.”

Lorenzo walked to a door near the left side of the apartment. “And this is the bedroom.”

She peered over into the room for a moment. It had a queen sized lush bed with a black shag carpet beneath it. The room smelled like his cologne.

Nia smiled and studied his eyes. “You know I’m not easy, right?”

Lorenzo chuckled. “Trust me, I know. It wasn’t easy getting you to come here tonight either, but you’re my girl.”

“There you go again with that word.” She giggled and crossed her arms. “I don’t know what you think is going to happen tonight.”

Lorenzo closed the door. “I’m gonna make you my girl, trust me. You’re gonna beg for it.”

She felt this weird, gravitational pull towards him, but she shook it off. “Whatever you say.”

He leaned down and kissed her hand and held her eyes for a moment. “You hungry?”

The two enjoyed a traditional Italian American meal complete with homemade garlic bread, gravy (tomato sauce) with pasta and fresh ground beef. Nia was stunned with his culinary skills. It was the first time she’d tasted pasta so fresh and was able to identify every spice and all of its ingredients.

“You know,” she said, wiping her mouth with a napkin, careful not to wipe her matte red lipstick, “I’ve been on dates with a lot of men but none of them can cook like that.”

He chuckled and looked over at her across from her from the dining room table. “Well, I guess you can say Italians are a little different in the kitchen. None of that Olive Garden shit.”

“I guess you’re right.” She said, taking a sip of water to wash down the meal.

Lorenzo got up and took his and Nia’s plates and put them away in the sink. He then poured them both red wine.

“I wanna know more about you,” he handed her a glass of wine. “I wanna know what makes you tick.”

Nia giggled and accepted the drink. “What makes me tick? Well, I love music. I still listen to a lot of the 90’s and 80’s jazz.”

“Well, I was around back then. I can assure you, seeing Whitney Houston in person was amazing.” Lorenzo chuckled.

She nearly choked. “You’ve seen Whitney Houston in person?”

“Yes, of course.” He nodded. “I was young back then, but I had the biggest crush on her.”

“Wow.” She said as her mind raced. Who was this guy really? “That’s a surprise.”

He shrugged and looked over at her. “Eh, it was the past. I still can’t believe she’s gone. But tell me more about you, Nia. How was your week?”

Nia shrugged. “My week’s been fine, I went to see my family and I interviewed a new client.”

Lorenzo nodded. “Oh? What’s your family like?”

“Well, my dad raised us for the most part after our mom died. I’m the oldest of my siblings, so there’s that.” she took a sip of her wine. She hated thinking about her mom. “But I love my brother and sister, they’re twins and they’re so talented with sports. They look up to me a lot, but I feel bad sometimes because they don’t know what I do.”

“I’m sorry about your mom.” Lorenzo gave her knee a gentle rub. “What do they think you do?”

Nia studied the floor for a moment before looking up again. “They think I work at a business firm downtown, they just can’t know I’m an escort. If my dad found out, I’m sure he would die from a broken heart.”

Lorenzo nodded. He knew it was hard lying people close to him, but sometimes it was for their own safety.

Just then, her phone buzzed loudly inside her purse from across the room. When she got up to check it, she saw a photo of a past client on her screen requesting that they meet the next night.

“Work?” Lorenzo asked from the kitchen.

Nia nodded and threw her phone back in her purse and walked back over to him. “Yeah, but—“

Lorenzo’s eyes held hers for a moment. “Whatever’s on your phone is not important.” He said. “What is important is our night here together. I want you to be comfortable, and I want us to have fun.”

She smiled for a moment before she settled her hips between his legs on the stool. He did a good job at making her forget about her problems.”Hmm, you sure?”

Lorenzo had a dark look in his eyes. Half desire, half curiosity. He leaned down and gave her a light peck on the lips.”Then let’s play a game. Something you young kids will understand.”

Nia chuckled. “Wow, a man almost twice my age is calling me young.”

“Let’s play truth or lie with a twist.” Lorenzo led her to the couch in the living room to get more comfortable.
